- There are two ecological disturbances that are truly "awesome" in Kansas: fires and storms. This is a series of three paintings that track the progression of a storm over the Flint Hills at sunset, from the anticipation of the coming storm, to the darkening skies, and the sudden downburst. It is estimated that a storm cloud holds about 100 million pounds of water (50,000 tons). In this series I tried to capture that sense of heaviness and release. The series was inspired by a Maya Angelou quote "Every storm runs out of rain."
